Hapkido is the martial art in which one tries to achieve harmony between the body of oneself and the opponent. As soon as hapkido is written in hanja, the name is identical to that of Japanese aikido. However, the Korean and Japanese pronunciations of these characters differ.
Techniques :
Hapkido has a wide arsenal of techniques and is therefore called a complete martial art.
The techniques that the hapkidoka learns can be divided into the following categories:
Fall breaking (nakbub) – Kicking and punching techniques – Joint locks – Pressure points – Weapons
Hapkido techniques are characterized by their often circular movements. The attack is not stopped linearly, but diverted to a point where the attack can no longer cause damage. At this point the hapkido practitioner controls the opponent and can launch a counterattack. Such a counterattack often consists of a twist of one of the joints, a throw, a striking technique, a kicking technique or a combination of the aforementioned techniques.
The goal is:
The improvement of the personality of the practitioner himself, as well as the promotion of harmony within himself and with others
Hapkido stands out because of its fluid movement in which one uses his entire body. It is based on real self-defense. Emphasis is placed on controlling and using different energy flows.
